Day 4: Peace Beyond Understanding
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
This flesh age can be tough. We all go through the fire at one time or another, and that will not change. But here is a beautiful promise from God, one that will help us walk through this life without being crushed by it.
This is not talking about man’s version of peace. It is the peace that no man can have or give, because it comes only from our Heavenly Father.
It means not having to keep pushing something out of your mind just to survive.
This is not a promise that all of life’s problems suddenly disappear. Instead, it means the anxiety and stress you experience no longer overtakes you. You’re not weighed down in the same way anymore.
Condition/Action:
God’s peace comes when we give our worries to Him in prayer, and when we do so with thanksgiving.
These verses tell us not to be careful for anything, meaning don’t be anxious or overly troubled. Instead, we need to bring everything, no matter how big or small, to God in prayer.
That kind of prayer is an act of surrender. It says to God, “I don’t have to carry this alone anymore.” And you honestly do not have to. Our Father hears every word you say to Him. Scripture even tells us that He saves our prayers (Revelation 5:8). He also saves our tears in a bottle. Your life matters to our Heavenly Father, and He wants to be a part of it.
Encouragement:
If you are feeling overwhelmed today, you’re not alone. God sees what you’re carrying, and He is offering something better: a peace that surpasses all understanding.
This promise does not say that your circumstances have to change before you can receive that peace. Simply bring your worries to Him. Lay them down at His feet, and try not to pick them up again. Our Father has them now, and you don’t need to carry them all by yourself anymore. What an amazing and loving promise.
And don’t forget to thank Him, even in the middle of the storm. That is where trust and faith begin to grow. When you know that no matter what, God has your best interests at heart. He will answer your prayers, sometimes in ways that you may not understand right away, but He knows exactly what you need and when you need it. Thanking Him shows that you trust Him enough to want what He wants for your life.
Let His peace keep you, guard you, and anchor your heart and mind when the world tries to pull you under.
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
That’s the key, isn’t it? Keeping our minds, our thoughts, and our focus on Him. Not on the problem or the fear, but on Him.
And how do we do that? We come back to His Word. We pray. We thank Him in advance, even if we cannot yet see the answer. That is when God’s promise is yours, and you will be given real peace, the kind you will never experience any other way.
I’d like to close with this: before Jesus ascended back to Heaven, He spoke these beautiful words:
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
This is a promise spoken by Christ our Savior, and given by our Heavenly Father. We begin to walk in it when we bring everything to Him in prayer, with thanksgiving, and keep our minds focused on Him instead of our fears.
Let His peace keep you, guard you, and anchor your heart and mind today, no matter what you are facing.
